Kindergarten and Preschool Program throughout ASTRA EARLY LEARNING NARRE WARREN SOUTH
To cultivate opportunities and experiences which support high early years outcomes, so children are well equipped to begin their formal education with confidence, competence and an eagerness to learn.
Accredited Kindergarten Program
At Astra Early Learning we understand that your child's kindergarten year is an important one.
Our 3 and 4 year old kindergarten programs are the Government recognised, funded kindergarten programs. We have a qualified Early Childhood Kindergarten Teacher who runs our kindergarten and school readiness program Monday to Friday between 8 am and 4 pm.
We have our kindergarten program integrated into our long day care program to provide families with more flexibility as there is no set days or times you are required to attend and children receive longer uninterrupted periods of learning.
However, in the year before school the Victorian Government does recommend each child attends a minimum of 15 hours of kindergarten per week.
Our kindergarten program is informed by the Victorian and Australian Early Learning Frameworks and the Reggio Emilia Approach as outlined on the about us page.
We believe it is important for children to develop excellent foundations and a love of learning before they transition to school.
Within the kindergarten program children will develop the skills and knowledge they require to form friendships, work and play within social situations, resolve conflicts, manage their emotions and develop their self help skills with the support and guidance of their teacher to ensure they are ready for school where more independence is required.
Our school readiness program focuses on more academic skills in a play based structure. For our children to get the best start our school readiness program will include:
Symbols and patterns
Throughout the kindergarten program children will also learn about cooking, Heath, hygiene, road safety, Indigenous Australians, community, self identify, sustainability and much more.
Bush Kinder at Astra Early Learning Narre Warren South
"Outdoor learning spaces are a feature of Australian learning environments. They offer a vast array of possibilities not available indoors. These spaces invite open-ended interactions, spontaneity, risk-taking, exploration, discovery and connection with nature. They foster an appreciation of the natural environment, develop environmental awareness and provide a platform for ongoing environmental education." EYLF: Learning environments, pages 15-16
At Astra Early Learning, we are proud to offer a Bush Kinder program for our kindergarten children.
We recognise that children living in the inner-suburbs, like Narre Warren South may not have the opportunity to spend a lot of time outdoors. Research demonstrates this leads to the early onset of mental health problems in children as young as 3, including anxiety. Children’s behaviour is also significantly impacted as we are spending more time indoors than previous generations.
At Astra Early Learning, we understand the benefits of connecting with nature and how this will support children’s learning.
Children will have the opportunity to explore, connect and learn with nature every week.
Children can learn literacy by writing in the sand or dirt with sticks or making patterns, symbols or marks.
Children can learn maths and numeracy by counting sticks, gumnuts, shells.
Children can learn other mathematical concepts such as classification and sorting, measurement; length, height, weight and shapes and patterns.
Children can learn science by looking at the weather, what is growing, insects and bugs and observing changes to the environment.
Children can learn about sustainability by exploring plants, flowers, grasses, life cycles, bugs, animals and how we are impacting the space we are using.
Children can learn about Indigenous Australians by connecting to the land, looking for native fauna and flora, Bush tucker and learning about traditions.
